Avatars: Collapse-Anxiety Comments: Boing Boing

Yesterday there was a post on the Boing Boing website asking readers to comment on the question
HOW ARE YOU COPING WITH COLLAPSE-ANXIETY?

The resulting posts made for some fascinating reading, and some snippets of the conversation are now dancing around my brain, all too profound or unsettling or just on-target to ignore.

Here are a few of the snippets, along with fanciful avatars I created. These are my perceptions, based on my imagination, and are not intended to actually depict the people who posted comments. I have no idea what these folks actually look like, whether they are male or female, or even their screen names. The snippets are out of context because they have no context (as snippets). Highlights of the conversation, translated from a screen full of words into a face, the idea of a human being. Absolutely no disrespect intended!

One of the snippets I didn't illustrate made the observation that when you can't spend your time doing work for payment, you are free to spend time doing what you want to do. (paraphrased). Really, these avatars are proof of that!!

Wild Animal Sanctuary 2-4-09

The weather today was unbelievably nice for February, so we took advantage of it and took a trip to Keenesburg to visit the Wild Animal Sanctuary.
Photobucket
We started the trip by getting a very special close-up visit with Dixie, the mountain lion we have sponsored for several years. Prior to today we'd only been able to see her through binoculars from quite a distance when we'd visited. Her keeper delivered the blue ball to her and we were allowed to accompany her for the occasion. The ball was smeared with Vicks VapoRub, adding to the appeal of the toy. This is Dixie right after getting the ball.

There were quite a few lions out enjoying the warm afternoon.

These two were enjoying a nap in the sunshine.

Photobucket
As were these two.

This is a close-up of the male in the previous picture.

These tigers were napping in the shade.

Photobucket
This tiger spent quite awhile laying on the melting ice in his water tank. Hard to tell in the picture, but there was a large block of ice floating on a fair amount of water, so the tiger was laying in some ice cold water!

A tiger in one of the large enclosures.

This one was licking his/her paws and enjoying the afternoon sunshine.

Photobucket
One prefers sunshine, the other shade?

Photobucket
Most of the tigers seemed to prefer the sunshine.

Photobucket
More napping tigers, these are on the other side of the round building.

This serval was drinking from the water tank...

Photobucket
He/she would dip a paw in, then lick the water off.

Just before we left a car drove into the employee's parking lot and all these wolves ran over to this gate. First time we've been able to see so many close up.

Another picture of the wolves.
